How To Organise A Photoshoot

What you will need for a Fashion Photoshoot:

- Stylist/ Designer
- Make-Up Artist
- Photographer
- Camera
- Accessories
- Good Lightings/ Lights
- Appropriate Location
- Fitting Room
- Refreshments

Models - On the photoshoot day you will need models to wear the garments and pose so the photographer has something to take pictures of. It is also ideal for the model to practice the poses so that he/she is prepared for the day.

Stylist/ Designer - The designer or stylist also needs to attend the photoshoot because the model will need them to put on the garment in the right way and to also place any accessories that needs to be worn.

Make-Up Artist - You will need an make-up artist to apply make-up on the models so that they look awake and ready for a photoshoot. Make-up helps make the models look more proffessional.

Photographer - A Photographer is very important to have in a photoshoot because without the photographer there is no photos. However you will need to get a reliable photographer that will send the pictures edited on time.

LocationChoose an appropriate location for the photoshoot such as a studio or venue. If you are thinking about doing the photoshoot outside you will need to find out what the weather will be like on that date so that you will be prepared for any bad weather because that will affect the photoshoot.

Fitting Room - You will need a fitting room were the model can change and get ready for the shoot.

Refreshments - It also might be relevant to have some refreshments such as water and snacks because the photoshoot could take up to a whole day and you will need some refreshments to keep you going.

Final Illustration Circus Cabaret

This is the final Illustration I have drawn of my circus cabaret outfit.
This is the final design i have chosen for my final garment after experimenting and playing around with other ideas and colours. I have chosen this design because I like the style of the garment and the bright colours. I have also chosen it because there are some risky designs I would like to challege myself in such as making the full body suit that includes the leggings. This is risky for my because i have never made trousers of leggings before. I will challege this risky idea by following instructions on how to make it and taking it step by step.

Samples

Before choosing my final design I have tryed out other techniques and fabrics to see what works best and what doesn't. I have created samples so that I can try out different techniques to experiment different ways in making something.
Here I have created frills out of fabric. I have created this frill for a color or neck piece for a top.

This is the illustation I looked to sample the frills. It is a design of a dress made out of frills to look feathery.

The illustation was also inspired me a bird.

This is the bird I looked at to inspire me of the design. The feathers of the bird are comming out in thin strips at the back which look like frills/fringes.

These are a stripey top I have created using two different fabrics with two different patterns to create a contrast between the two. \i have created them in different styles looking at the different style in Alexander Mcqueens work.

To create these samples I looked at the artist alexandre mcqueens outfits which are inspired by birds. His outfits have more than one colour colliding together which I have done on my sample.

Here I have put the frill nect piece and stripey top together to experiment what the two would look like together and if they both work together as one piece. I think they both do look good together because it has alot of patterns, shapes and textures which make it interesting.

Here I have used the frills I made earlier for the neck piece into a waist belt to see if it looks better as a waist belt. I have done this to also see if my design from my illustration would also work.

Here I have made a couple of bows out of cotton fabric with the polka dot design on it. I then put the bows into a top to see if it looks interesting on front of a top for a design.

I have got this idea by looking at my illustration design. I have looked at the bow designs and created samples of the bows to add onto a top. I have made and stitched them on to give it the 3D effect.

I have got this idea by looking at Bauhaus Taiadic Ballet costumes because he also makes his costumes 3D.

Here I have created another sample of a layered top and frilled skirt.

I have got the ideas of the style by looking at my refined illustration.

I have got the idea of the layered top be looking at the birds wings because the structure of the feathers are also layered on top of each other.

The idea i got of the skirt of the dress was be looking at the tradition skirts of a showgirl.

The show girl has frills/ fringes comming down on the bottom of the costume made out of beads, i have recreated my garment and made the frills out of strips of fabric.

Circus Cabaret Digital Fashion Flats

Here I have created some digital flats of ideas of what my garment could possible look like. I have looked at colours taken out of my moodboard. I have also included the patterns that are taken fron my moodboard, I did this so my garment ideas could be more interesting and give me more ideas for my final piece.

Refined Rough Illustrations

Here I have developed my rough illustrations further by choosing my favourite style and expanding it in different ways. I have looked at different styles for the garment design such as pleats, layerings, frills, gatherings and flared sleeves. I have also tryed out different colours to experiment which colours work best together. The colours I have used are colours taken out of my moodboard such as orange, red, pink, yellow, green and blue.

Rough Illustrations

Here I have drawn some rough illustrations developing my ideas taken from my mood-board. I have looked at different styles such as pleats, gatherings, layerings, bows and frills. I have also looked at the shaped and forms of the garment. I have tryed to mix and match different styles to see which styles work best together and which styles dont work well together.

Circus ShowGirl Mood-Board and Colour Pallete

Here I have created a moodboard of different types of costumes of a show girl. Making the moodboard I have noticed a colour theme coming out, colours such as blue, orange, red, yellow and tourquise. The bright colours remind me of the colourful exotic birds because they are also very bright and colourful so I have included images of the exotic birds to link them.

Here I have selected some common colours that are on my moodboard. The colours I have selected are, dark blue, red, yellow, pink, light blue and orange.

Show Girl

1. What is the history of showgirls?
Showgirls were very popular in the 1800s in shows such as the Persian music halls and cabarets in places such as the The Lido, Folies Bergere and the Moulin Rouge attributes. The Lido is a French cabaret show in Paris where dancers such as showgirls perform to a wide audience and have been since 1946.
2. Why do you think show girls wear feathers?

A show girl is a dancer and performer that entertains an audience. They also present and host the show. They mostly perform in shows such as musical, circus or theatrical productions. They wear glamorous costumes with alot of gems, glitter and big long feathers.
This show girl costume is dark blue and white. It has alot of silver tassles which makes the costume look glamorous. The dress has huge fluffy feathers coming down from the back which looks like a peacock.

This show girl costume has a lot more flussy feathers on the skirt, hat, and even the sleeves. There are also silver tassles on this costume aswel to make it glamorous. The colour of this costume is pink/peach and white.

Artist Research - Circus Cabaret

Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen is a catwalk design who was born in the East End of London in 1970.
To design his dresses Alexander McQeen is inspired by birds and butterflies. His garments include alot of feathers, butterfly wings with huge head pieces and big skirts. The dresses by Alexander MaQueen I have looked at are the garments inspired by birds because that is my theme.
This dress by Alexander McQueen is very puffy and red with black prints of birds flying on it. The bird prints on the bottom of the dress are quite big and the prints on the top of the dress are very small which looks like a checkered pattern. This could give me an idea for my final design by looking at the bird prints and printing birds onto my final dress.

This dress is made out of white thick feathers for the top of the dress and fluffy white feathers for the bottom of the dress. The skirt is very big and looks quite heavy to wear. The sleeves of the dress are short and the neck it long. This dress inspires me because I could make my top similar using feathers in different colours of tropical birds.
This dress by mcQeen is very colourful, he has used a variety of colours making it muli-coloured like a tropical bird such as a parrot. The dress has prints of detailed patterns and the color of the dress if made out of feathers. The feathers go from short to long and spike up pointy at the back. This dress inspires me because I could make my garment very colourful like the tropical birds and use a variety of bright colours.

Christopher Kane
Christopher Kane is a catwalk fashion designer who was born in Scotland.

On this dress Christopher has layered circle shaped on top of each other making it look like feathers. The colour he has used is nude. I could use this dress as an inspiration by layering shapes and making it look like feathers.

On this dress Christopher has done thin pleats on the skirt which looks like a birds wing. He has also created stripes for the top. I could use this dress as an inspiration by creating pleats on my final dress to make it look like wings.
Here is another dress Christopher has created by layering circle shapes. I really like this technique because it is interesting and unique.

Trish Summerville
Trish Summerville is a costume designer who designed costumes for the movie hunger games. The costumes she designed for the movie hunger games was inspired by birds.
This costume by Trish is inspired by a bird. She has used feathers to create the shoulders of the dress. The feathers are res and the dress is black which makes the shoulders stand out from rest of the dress. I could use this as an inspiration by using eathers on my dress to show that it is inspired by birds.

This costume by Trish also has feathers and wings. It is made out of metal materials and the colour gold. She has used the colour gold. I could use this costume as an inspiration by using other materials on my dress and not just fabric to make it more interesting.

This is another costume from the movie hunger games. The costume is of a bird. She has added big black wings for the sleeves of the dress. I could use this as an inspiration by adding huge wings onto my costume.
